Vortex Defender-ST Solar 3 MOA Red Dot Sight

We spent quite some time evaluating Vortex red dot sights, but the latest Defender-ST Solar made a really strong impression on us – and definitely not just because it has a solar panel.

The Vortex Defender-ST Solar is a robust enclosed design that looks like it could survive just about anything. Thanks to its fully enclosed 7075 aluminum housing, you don't have to worry about rain, mud, or dust covering the emitter and preventing you from aiming. The large, clear sight window also provides excellent visibility, while the 3 MOA dot is exceptionally crisp.

What makes it stand out?

• Enclosed design: The entire optical system is protected inside a sealed housing. Mud or rain on the lens won't block the dot – simply wipe the glass and keep shooting.

• Solar Auto D-TEC power system: The red dot sight automatically determines where to draw its power from. When there is sufficient light, it uses the solar panel. This allows the CR2032 battery to last for up to 150,000 hours. The important part for us is that the reticle brightness is set by the user, not by an automatic brightness control.

• Multi-reticle: As you know, we're fans of a simple dot in every red dot sight. That said, you have the option to choose between a precise 3 MOA dot for target shooting and a large 32 MOA circle for faster dynamic shooting.

• FAST-RACK™: Aggressive serrations on the front of the housing allow you to reliably rack the pistol in an emergency using a belt, table edge, or holster without worrying about damaging the sight.

Mounting and compatibility

The sight uses the popular DeltaPoint® Pro (ST) footprint. The package includes a complete set of mounting hardware and accessories:

1. Adapter for the Glock MOS system.

2. Picatinny rail mount for rifles or shotguns.

3. Rubber protective cover, battery, and screw set.

Important for users of Polish-made accessories: The Defender-ST Solar is compatible with 2BME mounting plates (models: 033, 035, 036, 037, 042).
